Glossary of "Cladistics (2nd ed.)" by Kitching et al. (1998)

• The method of cladistic analysis that codes the observed features of taxa as binary characters and/or transformation series, assesses the optimal cladogram in terms of length and investigates hypotheses of character evolution using optimization procedures. Used primarily in contradistinction to three-item statements analysis.
