This study aims to ascertain the phylogenetic relationships among species of the genus Leucobryum in Asia and the Pacific, and to assess the morphological characters which reflect the phylogenetic trees. The tree based on ITS and rbcL sequences showed four major clades within the genus Leucobryum: L. juniperoideum clade, L. scabrum clade, L. bowringii clade, and L. sanctum clade. These results showed that the position of perichaetia on the stem, the proration of the abaxial leaf cells at the leaf apex, and the central strand of the stem are important characters which are reflected in the phylogeny.
