• (a) A small appendage on the upper (adaxial) side of the leaf, near the leaf base, found in the Selaginellaceae and lsoetaceae of the lycophytes. (b) An outgrowth or projection from the top of a leaf sheath at its junction with the blade, as in the Poaceae. (leaf part)
