- A highly potent carcinogen (cancer-causing agent) that is inadvertently produced during the chemical manufacture of certain herbicides and during wood pulp processing.

- An organic compound composed of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, and chlorine. About 75 types are known. Dioxin is not normally manufactured intentionally but is a by-product resulting from chemical reactions in the production of other materials, such as herbicides. Known to be extremely toxic to mammals, its effects on the human body are being intensively studied and evaluated.
