Definition

Glossary of "Life (9th ed.)" by Sadava et al. (2011)

  • Theoretical basis for water movement in plants: evaporation of water from cells within leaves (transpiration) causes an increase ion surface tension, pulling water up through the xylem. Cohesion of water occurs because of hydrogen bonding.
