Glossary of "Cladistics (2nd ed.)" by Kitching et al. (1998)

• A method of rooting that first determines the most parsimonious cladogram for the ingroup taxa alone, then, keeping this topology fixed, adds an all-plesiomorphic outgroup or hypothetical ancestor at the position that gives the least increase in overall length of the cladogram.
