Definition
Glossary of "Cladistics (2nd ed.)" by Kitching et al. (1998)
- (1) The condition under which two characters do not represent independent evidence in support of a group. (2) The union of more than two character states into a single multistate character. Also known as character interdependency.
Glossary of "Life (9th ed.)" by Sadava et al. (2011)
- Association between genes on the same chromosome such that they do not show random assortment and seldom recombine; the closer the genes, the lower the frequency of recombination.
