Definition

"A Dictionary of Ecology, Evolution and Systematics (2nd ed.)" by Lincoln et al. (1998)

• A measure of the similarity in species composition between two communities (A and B) using only binary (presence/absence) data calculated as S_j=c/(a+b+c), where c is the number of species common to both, and a and b are the numbers of species occurring only in communities A and B respectively.
