continental drift
Definition
- A hypothesis put forward to account for various features of the Earth's surface, e.g. the distribution of the continents and ocean basins.

- The movement of continents in response to seafloor spreading. The most recent episode of continental drift supposedly started about 200 million years ago with the breakup of the supercontintnt Pangaea.
