Definition

Glossary of "Cladistics (2nd ed.)" by Kitching et al. (1998)

  • A group of taxa as determined by the branching pattern of a cladogram. For example, in a group comprising three taxa A, B, and C, where B and C are more closely related to each other than either is to A, there are two components, ABC and BC. ABC is an uninformative component, while BC is an informative component. Also known as clade, monophyletic group.
