• An alternate photosynthesis pathway of some land plants in which carbon dioxide is initially fixed in the mesophyll cells by the enzyme PEP carboxylase, producing a four-carbon molecule, which is transported to bundle sheath cells, where the carbon dioxide is released and fixed by ribulose-biphosphate carboxylase in the typical dark reactions.
