The Japanese endemic ''Pachyneuropsis miyagii'' (Pottiaceae, Bryophyta) is a distinct species immediately distinguished from others of the genus by its long moniliform axillary hairs.  The phylogenetic position of this species was investigated based on chloroplast ''rps4'' gene sequences.  The resultant tree supported the taxonomic treatment that ''Pachyneuropsis'' be placed in the subfamily TrichostomoideaeOur result also suggested ''P. miyagii'' was phylogenetically close to ''Chionoloma'', ''Pseudosymblepharis'' and ''Oxystegus''.

Naturalized plants, ''Sisymbrium orientale'' L. and ''S. irio'' L. (Brassicaceae) were collected from Hiroshima Prefecture, Honshu, southwestern Japan.  The former species was found growing by the road-side at reclamation areas in Mihara, Higashi-hiroshima and Hatsukaichi Cities as additional localities in the prefecture; the latter was found by the road-side in Hiroshima City and is the first record in the prefectureSequence of the nuclear 18S rRNA gene (nr 18S rDNA) and ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nr ITS), and chloroplast ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase large subunit gene (cp ''rbcL'') for ''S. orientale''; nr ITS for ''S. irio'' and ''S. officinale'' were obtained.  Their phylogenetic positions were also demonstrated.

[[Pachyneuropsis_miyagii|フチドリコゴケ''Pachyneuropsis miyagii'' T.Yamag.]]はセンボンゴケ科Pottiaceae の日本固有種として沖縄本島の標本にもとづいて新種記載された.本種は,葉腋毛が基部と先端部の2–4個の長い細胞をのぞいて,20–40個の膨らんだ方形細胞が数珠状に連なり,さらに数珠状に連なる膨らんだ方形細胞は,外側の表面にしばしば小孔をもつという,センボンゴケ科の中では非常に特異的な形態をもつ.本研究では,葉緑体''rps4''遺伝子の塩基配列にもとづいて,本種の系統解析をおこなった.系統解析の結果,本種はセンボンゴケ科のクチヒゲゴケ亜科Trichostomoideae に相当するクレードに含まれ,''Chionoloma''や''Pseudosymblepharis'',''Oxystegus''と系統的に近い関係にあることが示唆された.

Naturalized plants, Sisymbrium orientale L. and S. irio L. (Brassicaceae) were collected from Hiroshima Prefecture, Honshu, southwestern Japan.
