特徴
- 3月頃，展葉に先立って開花する．普通は花の基部に小型の若葉が1枚つくことで，同属のタムシバと区別できる．
- 果実は成熟すると赤紅色になる．コブシの仲間は集合果をもつものが多く，扁平状～球形の袋果（たいか）が複数個結合した状態．
- 和名の由来には諸説あるが，和名の「コブシ」がそのまま学名と英名になっている．
- 東広島キャンパスでは，中央図書館前や総合科学部周辺に植栽されている．
