特徴
- 3月頃，展葉に先立って開花する．普通は花の基部に小型の若葉が1枚つくことで，同属のタムシバと区別できる．
- 果実は成熟すると赤紅色になる．コブシの仲間は集合果をもつものが多く，扁平状～球形の袋果（たいか）が複数個結合した状態．
- 和名の由来には諸説あるが，和名の「コブシ」がそのまま学名と英名になっている．
- 東広島キャンパスでは，中央図書館前や総合科学部周辺に植栽されている．

Notes
- Flowering occurs around March, prior to the leaf outgrowth. Distinguishable from the same genus Magnolia salicifolia by the presence of a single small young leaf, usually at the base of the flower.
- The fruits are reddish-red when mature. Many species of the genus Magnolia have conglomerate fruits, which consist of several flat to spherical pouch fruits joined together.
- There are many theories about the origin of the Japanese name, but the Japanese name "kobushi" has been used as the scientific name and the English name.
- At the Higashi-hiroshima Campus, "kobushi" are planted in front of the Central Library and around the Faculty of Integrated Arts and Sciences.
