特徴
- 3月頃，展葉に先立って開花する．普通は花の基部に小型の若葉が1枚つくことで，同属のタムシバと区別できる．
- 果実は成熟すると赤紅色になる．コブシの仲間は集合果をもつものが多く，扁平状～球形の袋果（たいか）が複数個結合した状態．
- 和名の由来には諸説あるが，和名の「コブシ」がそのまま学名と英名になっている．
- 東広島キャンパスでは，中央図書館前や総合科学部周辺に植栽されている．

- Flowering occurs prior to leafing. Magnolia kobus is distinguishable from Magnolia salicifolia (willow-leaved magnolia) by the presence of a small young leaf usually at the base of the flower.
- The fruits become crimson red when mature. Many species of the genus Magnolia have aggreagate fruit, which consist of several flat to spherical follicles joined together.
- Its Japanese name "kobushi" has many theoried explaining the origin of the name, but ultimately "kobushi" has been used as the scientific name and the common name.
- On Higashi-Hiroshima Campus, kobushi is planted in front of the Central Library and around School of Integrated Arts and Sciences.
