- アメリカスズカケノキと小アジア原産のスズカケノキを交雑して作られたモミジバスズカケノキがあり，一般に「プラタナス」と呼ばれる．
- アメリカスズカケノキは球状果が1個ぶら下がり，スズカケノキは球状果が3～7個ぶら下がり，モミジバスズカケノキは2～3個ぶら下がる．
- 繁殖は実生または接ぎ木．
