recapitulation (von Baerian)
Glossary of "Cladistics (2nd ed.)" by Kitching et al. (1998)
- The view of development that states that two taxa will share the same ontogenetic sequence up to the point that they diverged into separate lineages and thus we would never expect the ontogenetic sequence of an organism to pass through the stages found in the adults of its ancestors. See also recapitulation (Haeckelian).
