• (a) One of the hygroscopic appendages arising from the spores of Equisetum, functioning in spore dispersal. (b) A nonsporogenous, elongate, hygroscopic cell with spiral wall thickenings that develops within the sporangia of some liverworts and that functions in spore dispersal.
