Glossary of "Environmental Science: Earth as a Living Planet (2nd ed.)" by Botkin & Keller (1998)
- Changes in the size of a population due to factors that are independent of the population size. For example, certain climatic factors that are nor affected by the size of a specific population can affect the entire population. A storm that knocks down all trees in a forest, not matter how many there are, is a density-independent population effect.
