Glossary of "Molecular Systematics (2nd ed.)" by Hillis et al. (1996)
- autapomorphy: A derived character state unique to a particular taxon.
Glossary of "Cladistics (2nd ed.)" by Kitching et al. (1998)
- A derived character or character state (apomorphy) that is restricted to a single terminal taxon in a data set. An autapomorphy at a given hierarchical level may be a synapomorphy at a less-inclusive level. One from of uninformative character.
Glossary of "Plant Systematics (1st ed.)" by Simpson (2006)
- An apomorphy that occurs for a single lineage a scientific name.
Glossary of "Plant Systematics (3rd ed.)" by Judd et al. (2008)
- Derived character state restricted to a single terminal taxon (in a cladistic analysis).
