- (a) A shoot that terminates growth after a certain period, the apical meristem aborting or converting into a flower, inflorescence, or other specialized structure (stem branching pattern, stem type). (b) An inflorescence in which the terminal flower matures first, maturating from apex to base. (inflorescence development)
