- 花は白色で，花弁と萼片が同じような形（花被片）になる．シモクレンに似た大型の花が咲く．
- 花被片が落ちた後に展葉する．
- 東広島キャンパスでは，中央図書館前の広場に多く植栽されている．

Notes
- A deciduous tree of the Magnolia family. Native to China, and planted as a garden and park trees.
- Its white flowers have indistinguishable sepals and petals ("tepals"). Its large flowers are similar to those of the Lily magnolia (Magnolia liliiflora).
- Leaves unfold after the tepals fall off.
- On Higashi-Hiroshima Campus, many of this tree are planted in the plaza in front of the Central Library.
